an art exhibition

in the ruins

of st. anne's anglican church

270 gladstone ave.

aug 22 - sep 13, 2026

Presented by St. Anne’s Anglican Church, this art exhibition is the first public event presented inside the historic church since the devastating fire in 2024.

Where Walls Meet Sky, is a free, site-specific contemporary art exhibition curated by Rui Pimenta

(Art Spin), opening August 22 and runs through September 13, 2026, at St. Anne's Anglican Church

(270 Gladstone Avenue).

The fire-scarred interior becomes a place of reflection, gathering, and artistic exploration with works by Sacha Bassil, Sandra Brewster, Julia Campisi, John Dickson, Sofia Escobar, David Jensenius, Gareth Lichty, Eunice Luk, Roda Medhat, Noel Middleton, Mary Catherine Newcomb, and Max Streicher.

A note from the curator...

Where Walls Meet Sky emerges from and responds to a moment of profound transformation. Following the fire that destroyed St. Anne's Anglican Church in 2024, the building exists in a state of becoming, marked by loss, yet filled with possibility. This exhibition inhabits a space between what was and what may yet be, while also fulfilling a desire to reconnect with its community both religious and secular as it has long done.

The works in this exhibition explore themes of renewal, resilience, and memory, while the altered architecture of St. Anne's serves as both setting and collaborator. This church without a roof allows light, weather, and sky to enter the space, dissolving the boundary between inside and outside, poignantly serving as a symbol for that which cannot be contained.

Fire also plays a prominent part in this exhibition, both as a force of destruction and regeneration. Fire clears, reveals, and reshapes. It leaves behind traces of what once existed while creating the conditions for something new to emerge. The works gathered here respond to this paradox, reflecting on change not as an end, but as a continuous process of becoming.

Where Walls Meet Sky is an invitation to pause within that process, to consider how places carry memory, how communities endure, and how renewal often begins in the very moment when certainty gives way to openness.
