What’s in/store for your future?

‘Future Cards’, by @theurbangeog inspired by the symbology of Ontario Place, let you explore pressing issues within your own future.

Originally created for Art Spin's in/future in 2016, where attendees received a card after a reading at the Future Fortune Booth or bought the full six-card deck at the gift shop, this 2026 reissue is set against the void left by the Ford government's 2024 destruction of Ontario Place, a flattened pit: but what potential does it hold?

Your chance to own a piece of Ontario Place heritage!

We mean it literally – this special 2026 artist edition of ‘Flotsam/Jetsam’ by @leuwebb incorporates sand from the present day Ontario Place site into the casting process.

‘Flotsam/Jetsam’ was a granular presence along the beaches of Ontario Place’s West Island, a landscape work by LeuWebb composed of dream fragments from an earlier, more optimistic future.

Originally featured at the in/future festival at Ontario Place, 2016, ‘Flotsam/Jetsam’ took the form of real and imagined remnants, debris, and detritus strewn among the stones and pebbles of the site’s beaches.

Composed of one hundred of plaster casts of architectural miniatures,
‘Flotsam/Jetsam’ invited engagement and closer inspection, an archaeological expression that revealed itself with attentiveness, as mementos of our collective utopian aspirations and their potential shortcomings.

The shape of the work shifted over the course of the in/future exhibition with the steady washing of the waves, and the movements and scavenging activities of visitors.

📆 Mark your calendars! We're back with an Art Spin Bike Tour on Saturday September 19th.

We're thrilled to announce that we'll be presenting one of our iconic bicycle-led art tours. Save the afternoon of Saturday, September 19th, as we return with our first tour since the summer of 2024. This year, we'll explore Toronto's rapidly transforming Port Lands neighbourhood through 'Re-Naturalize', a new series of site-responsive contemporary art commissions that invite us to experience one of the city's most dramatic ecological and urban transformations from the seat of a bicycle.

Together, we'll travel through landscapes where wetlands, parks, industry, and new neighbourhoods intersect, stopping to experience artworks and performances that respond to ideas of restoration, ecology, and the ever-shifting relationship between people and nature.

More details –including tickets, and programming– will be announced soon. For now, hold the date in your calendar and get ready to ride with us once again.

We’re excited to share that Art Spin Co-Curator Rui Pimenta @pimenta.rui is curating the Art Nest program ‘A Forwards Retreat’ as part of the 65th edition of the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair @torontooutdoorart ✨

The free outdoor exhibition includes works by past Art Spin artists, including Peggy Baker, Max Dean, Naomi Dodds, Micah Lexier, and Ed Pien, and reflects on aging and artistic practice, as well as what it means to keep creating beyond conventional ideas of retirement.
